2016-17 Season

EPISODE 250 (SEASON PREMIERE)
By popular demand, today we’re going to start the season off with our viewer’s favorite episode from last season. If you are a football player in high school or college and aspire to make it in the NFL, you’ll want to tune in! Gracey will find out what your chances are of making it to the
NFL and what the draft process is like. We’ll also get a look into the daily routine of the football players and coaches along with some great advice.

EPISODE 251
Today, we’re going to bring back some viewer favorites from last season. Though they may seem totally different, they have one thing in common: They are all careers in the medical field. We’ll start by taking a look back at Shawn’s interview with a plastic surgeon and see how the work he does helps his patients feel better about themselves. Torn between a music career and a career in the health industry? We’ll show you how you can do both when we give you an encore of Alecsa’s interview with a Music Therapist. The applications for 3D printing are amazing. We’ll bring you back Shawn’s interview with an engineering student. He’s part of an innovative team that uses 3D printing to create prosthetic arms for children (EnablingTheFuture.org, Limbitless-Solutions.org)

EPISODE 252
Alecsa will start us off at the hospital where she meets with a radiation oncologist. She learns how he uses advances in medicine and technology to treat cancer patients. Did you know The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in England? Shawn talks to an area commander and gets some insight into the international organization, its mission and opportunities available. What happens when you merge the talents of an artist with the technology of a computer? Alecsa will find out when she meets up with a digital artist.

Have you been wondering about what our field reporter, Alecsa is really like? Well, wonder no more because Shawn is going to start off the show interviewing Alecsa. We’ll get to know both of them better! Then, Alecsa will take it from there and introduce us to a dental hygienist. We’ll see how this is a job that works well for someone who wants a career in the dental field and wants a flexible schedule as well. Plus, Alecsa will visit the classroom of a second grade teacher and learn why she is passionate about her career teaching young children and making a difference in their lives.

Alecsa is going to start us out by introducing us to an artist who uses her talent to design and market beautiful greeting cards, adult coloring books and more unique creations. We’ll also meet a woman who is the CFO, COO and deputy director of a non-profit organization. What is that, you ask? You’ll have to wait and see. Plus, we’ll meet a woman who wanted both a career in law enforcement and one working with kids at a school; she found her niche as a School Resource Officer.

Wonder what a hedge fund is? Alecsa will find out when she speaks to a hedge fund manager. She’ll learn that it takes more than financial knowledge to successfully manage people’s investments. Then, if you’re into basketball, you’ll want to see our second career. Shawn meets up with an NCAA basketball referee and learns how he got his job and what goes into officiating college games. Finally, Alecsa will meet a woman who, after she lost her husband at a young age, realized she had a gift to offer of herself. She started a non-profit organization to empower other widows.

EPISODE 256
Alecsa will meet a character artist who designed some of the famous Disney merchandise you see in stores and at the Disney parks and resorts. You’ll want to see what he’s doing now. And we’ll also meet another type of artist when Shawn visits a nail technician and learns how she uses her steady hand to make people’s fingers and toes beautiful. Or maybe you’d rather have a job where you get paid to eat and travel. Alecsa will talk with a AAA hotel and restaurant inspector and see if his job is all that one would imagine.

EPISODE 257
Shawn will meet a woman who is a Special Agent for IRS Criminal Investigation. Her job is to catch people involved in financial crimes such as money laundering and tax fraud. Then, Alecsa will talk to a licensed massage therapist and learn how massage is not just for relaxation but is also beneficial to healing. The thought of catching an alligator doesn’t appeal to most people – especially women. But, Alecsa met up with a woman who loves the thrill and excitement involved in her job of trapping nuisance gators.

EPISODE 258
Alecsa will start us off at the dentist’s office where she speaks with a general dentist. She learns what he spends most of his time doing and why he loves working with families. Developments in engineering are happening at warp speed. Shawn will learn about what’s hot in the engineering field and how advances impact so many aspects of our world. And Alecsa will meet with an inventor who created a safer type of skateboard. He’ll give her an introduction into the process of inventing a product and getting it on the market.

EPISODE 259
Shawn starts us out by meeting up with a sound designer. We’ll hear about how he integrates music, sound and effects into films, TV and plays. It makes a world of difference in the finished production! Then Alecsa will visit a university and speak with the head volleyball coach where we’ll learn that coaching involves a lot more than teaching volleyball skills. Then, we’ll find out about the different skills needed to guide students not only academically and career wise but also socially and personally when Alecsa talk with a high school counselor.

EPISODE 260
The National Audubon Society  protects and treats injured birds of raptor.  Alecsa will visit one of their centers and learn how they rescue and rehab some amazing bird species. We don’t appreciate our furnace or air conditioner until it doesn’t work.  Alecsa will visit an HVAC company and learn about jobs and skills needed to keep people’s HVAC systems running smoothly.There are many mental and emotional factors that can interfere with a child’s happiness and well-being. Shawn will meet a child therapist and learn how she helps little ones dealing with various issues.

EPISODE 261
Sometimes, illnesses become a real mystery for doctors. Alecsa will meet an infectious disease specialist whose job is to diagnose and treat rare and complex conditions. We see their big brown trucks everywhere delivering packages to doorsteps.  Alecsa learns what it takes to be a UPS driver and package handler. Trendy boutiques are popping up everywhere. Alecsa will visit one and learn how they serve their clientele in a more personal way than the big department stores and what it takes to own a fashion boutique.

Did you know more than one in seven people have a substance abuse problem?  We’ll talk with an addictions professional and learn about the challenges in treating those with drug addictions. For those of you interested in aviation, we’re going to bring back Shawn’s interview with a director of Career Services at an aviation and aerospace university. He learned about what the up and coming jobs will be in the aeronautics industry. We are also going to take a look back into the world of fashion design when we revisit ELAN, a women’s clothing manufacturer and talk with the CEO and designer.

We’re going to bring back some of your favorite interviews from last season.  Organic foods continue to grow in popularity.  We’ll revisit Shawn’s interview with an organic farmer who runs a business that makes orange juice that you may find in the produce section of your grocery store. 
We’ll also take a look back at Gracey’s interview with the general manager of a major hotel chain.  You’ll find out the variety of things his job entails – and how he does everything with a certain goal in mind.  Plus, you’ll get an encore of Alecsa’s visit with a foot and ankle surgeon. They discussed why she chose this specialty and what we can do to avoid common foot and ankle problems.

They will discuss her enormous responsibility of overseeing almost 3000 inmates plus a large staff at the jail. Then, we’ll bring you an encore of Shawn’s interview with an industrial psychologist. She helps people with problems such as trouble getting along with others in the workplace.  Hmm…do I see a parallel with work life and home life?  Plus, we’ll take a look back at Alecsa’s interview with a man who found his passion for flying at age 13. He has since then become a successful entrepreneur and a mentor to young people interested in aviation.

You asked and we listened. We’re going to revisit some of your favorite interviews from last season! For all you pet lovers out there – like who isn’t? – we’ll start off at the animal shelter where Alecsa spoke with an animal care officer. She learned what he does and found out his favorite part of the job. Did you know that a different set of laws apply to accidents that happen out in open water? We’ll revisit Gracey’s meeting with a maritime attorney and see how he applies these laws when working with clients who want to file a case against a cruise ship or boat. While a few people have legal claims against cruise lines, the vast majority have a blast on a cruise. We’re bring you an encore of Shawn’s interview with a cruise agent and see why she loves working with her clients to ensure they have a great cruise experience.

We’ll show you Shawn’s interview with a marketing and advertising executive.  Among other things, they discussed how she gives her clients the biggest bang for their advertising buck. Then we’ll head back to the marina where Gracey met up with a charter yacht captain and learned about the fun and fascinating career he calls work.  Work. . . Really? For you people that are into organization and want to be self-employed, we’ll bring back Shawn’s interview with a woman who provides a helping hand for her clients by running errands and getting their homes in order.

We’re going to revisit the Miami Seaquarium where Gracey met up with the animal care manager and learned how she tends to the exhibit and rescue animals such as manatees and turtles. Interested in becoming a blogger?  Then you’ll be glad we’re bringing back Alecsa’s interview with a lifestyle blogger. She shared how she got her start in this popular career. And if tuning up and repairing cars interests you, stay “tuned” as we bring you back to the shop where Shawn spoke with a car tech and found out that being a good auto mechanic is a real science.

Most people have heard of urologists and gynecologists.  But have you heard of a urogynecologist?  You will - after we take a look back at Alecsa’s visit with a doctor who specializes in this field of medicine. Then we’ll head back to the airport hangar where Shawn met up with an avionics mechanic who is the Director of Maintenance for a company that maintains airplanes. He makes sure that their clients’ planes not only perform well but also look great inside and out. We’ll also take you back to the county jail.  That’s where Alecsa talked with a corrections officer and learned about his duties and how he works with the inmates.

First up, we’ll take a look back at Alecsa’s interview with a man who has a passion for neighborhood revitalization and empowering its residents. She found out his strategy is different from just providing a handout. Then, we’ll revisit Shawn’s meeting with an estate planning attorney. We’ve got some great interviews lined up for you this season, but for our first show, we want to take a look back at some of our viewer favs from last year! We’ll take you back to the newsroom where the news director of a TV station filled Shawn in on some of the job opportunities in the fast-paced TV news industry. Then we’ll revisit the beautifully landscaped home where landscape architect met up with Gracey and shared with her how he designed the awesome outdoor spaces. And if you’re interested in law enforcement and love horses, your dream jobs awaits!  You won’t want to miss our look back at Shawn’s interview with a mounted patrol officer.

Today, we’re going to continue where we left off last week and bring you more of our viewer’s favorite careers. We’ll go back to the wildlife refuge in the Everglades where a wildlife biologist gives Gracey a glimpse of the work he does both as a biologist and nature photographer. To kick off the season, we’re going to bring back our most popular interviews from last year.  We’ll start off with a career most of us have never thought of when we watch Shawn’s interview with a security person who keeps high-profile and famous people out of harm’s way. Then, we’ll revisit the hospital where Gracey met a doctor working in a fast growing trend in healthcare as a hospitalist. Can you guess what a hospitalist does? Keeping memories alive and preserving documents is important whether it’s a historic document or pictures of you and your friends or family.  We’ll look back at Shawn’s interview with a digital archivist at a college library.

Today, we’re going to continue where we left off last week and bring you more of our viewer’s favorite careers. We’ll start off with Gracey’s visit with a Roman Catholic priest and learn what he does besides celebrating Sunday Mass to serve the people of his community. Then we’ll take a look at Shawn’s segment with an empowerment coach who told him how she inspires people and helps them achieve their full potential. Plus we’ll bring back Gracey’s interview with a CPA where she learned how he was drawn to this career even though in high school he had no interest in accounting!

Shawn spent a day at the University of Central Florida’s Institute of Simulation and Training.   Simulators can be used for almost every type of situation... from preparing soldiers to go into combat... to training teachers and nurses... to improving driver and piloting skills. The staff and students at UCF’s I S T are involved in researching how simulation can be improved upon and made even more real. Shawn was surprised to find that teams of all sorts of people work together on simulation research. Whether you’re interested in psychology... graphic arts... acting... engineering... history... computers... or architecture, to name a few. There’s something for just about everyone in this research field! We’ll visit the RAPTER group, the Robotics lab and the Media Convergence Lab.

First up, Shawn will talk to a man who co-founded the Orlando Magic and is currently their Senior Vice President. He has a few tips to share with us. We’ll also get a glimpse into what it takes to put a TV show or commercial together when we meet the senior editor of a video production company. And then Shawn’s going to visit a physician who uses a form of medicine that’s dates back 5,000 years.  It’s called acupuncture and involves the use of needles to treat conditions.

Shawn will meet a business turnaround consultant who takes failing businesses and fixes them so that they become profitable once again. We'll meet Carolyn Fennell whose job title is Director of Public Affairs for the Aviation Authority of the Orlando International Airport - an airport, by the way, which was voted "#1 favorite by international travelers" in a Conde Nast Traveler's survey. We'll also learn from Luis' interview with Tim Russell what it takes to become a race car driver. And lastly, we're off to WFTV television to visit with Tom Terry and see just what a chief meteorologist's job entails. You WON'T want to miss Carley trying her hand at the weather!

First up we'll go out on a call with animal control specialist Crystal Keele to find out what type of "vermin" is living in her client's attic. You read that right; THIS animal trapper is a female! Also on our schedule is a chance to look in on Carley and Luis as they pursue their latest career opportunity in television. This time, however, it's not in FRONT of the camera but instead, they will be talking with John Keyes who is in charge of making program decisions at a local television station! And then, we'll explore the medical field when we meet Dr. David Molthrop, a Medical Oncologist. Oncology is the medical specialty dealing with the study and treatment of cancer.

EPISODE 59
Carley will talk with Dr. Barry Levin, an orthodontist. He is the one to go to for straight teeth and a beautiful smile. Then we'll follow Luis through a crime scene lab. You definitely don't want to miss this interview with Eric Brothers, a Forensic Analyst. Finally we'll visit with Dr. Michael Porter, a veterinarian who specializes in large animals. He sees most of his patients in their own environment, so we'll catch up with him on the job - at a horse stable.

Today Carley will introduce you to her new “best friends” of the canine persuasion. These exceptional dogs are being trained to assist people with disabilities. Carley even tries her hand at training the dogs! Love Math in school? Then you might want to listen up as Carley talks with a Mechanical Engineer. And finally Luis hits the water, literally, with an action sports photographer who is capturing images of a professional wakeboarder.

Do you know what an Information Technology Specialist does? Carley is going to learn all about this emerging field due to the tremendous growth in the area of technology. Then we’re off the a bakery with Luis where he’ll experience what it takes to become a cake designer/decorator. And then as promised, we’ll see if Luis has the “right stuff” to become a helicopter pilot.

In today’s world, chances are that you’ll buy a home and will seek the assistance of realtor to find your dream house. Today on Real Life 101 we’ll meet a realtor who enjoys finding the right home for the right person. We’ll also talk to the owner of a horse stable - now there’s an occupation perhaps you’ve never considered but it's rewarding nonetheless! Also on tap is a visit to the call center where 911 emergency phone calls are handled.

EPISODE 63
Carley meets a Rabbi who has a very unusual hobby that you won’t believe. Then Luis is off to the hospital to check in with a student nurse and learn about the training she is going through to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. And finally Luis will catch up with a pair of dynamic young women who will give us a look at marketing, public relations and business development as it applies in their daily jobs.

EPISODE 64
We are going on location with Luis and a deputy sheriff for a demonstration from the K-9 unit and learn more about this division of the sheriff’s department. We’ll go behind the scenes with Carley and talk with a Director of Broadcast Production to find out what has to be done before you hear the Director yell . . . action! Most of us might know what an architect does, but what do you know about an Architectural Engineer? Carley will fill you in on the differences between these two interesting occupations.

EPISODE 65
Wakeboarding is one of the more popular water sports today and Carley has landed an interview with professional wakeboarder, Phillip Sovern. On the last episode of Real Life 101 we learned about architectural engineering. Today we’ll gain some insight into that of an Electrical Engineer with Luis. And then Carley will wrap things up with a workout and an interview with a Jazzercise Instructor.

We are going to find out about the world of publishing when Carley talks to a magazine editor. Then Luis will be stopping in at a video post-production facility to gain some knowledge about video editing. And then our girl Carley gets lost. Yes, that's right... fortunately she isn’t lost for long as a volunteer Search & Rescue team comes to her aid.

EPISODE 67
We are going with Luis to take a look at what it takes to be a director of news for a local television station. Carley will take with the head of an entertainment design company. The projects they work on are truly awesome! And finally Luis is off to a doctor’s office. No, fortunately he’s not sick but he will be talking with a PA . . . or Physician’s Assistant in a surgeon’s office.

Advertising is one career path that interests many students. Carley talks to an advertising executive to see what qualifications are needed for this interesting profession. Also on our schedule is a chance to look in on Luis as he checks out what an orthodontic assistant’s duties entail. Do we catch Luis sleeping on the job? And then we’ll talk with two students who served as summer interns to further their career goals. You’ll want to hear what they have to say.

In this episode, we'll introduce you to an attorney who will provide us with some insight into this much sought-after career. We will then take you to the office of a surgeon to learn about her area of specialty. She has a story that will inspire you to reach for the stars. And finally, we'll visit with a real estate appraiser who is also something of an entrepreneur with his computer-based ventures.

On this episode of Real Life 101, we will introduce you to the resident conductor of a large orchestra. Then we’ll take a peek inside a studio where voice-over work is done for all sorts of commercials and programs. Finally, we look at a profession where you really have an opportunity to make a difference in a young child’s life. . . when Carley goes to the playground with a school teacher.

Are you the type of person to whom your friends come to confide? Do you want to help others with what life has dealt them? If so, our first career might be perfect for you. Or, if you like to fly and want the biggest window seat in the world, watch as Luis finds out what it takes to become a commercial airline pilot. If you’d rather stay closer to home and you’re a take-charge person, then running a grocery store might be better suited for you. Carley will introduce us to a grocery store manager who’ll tell us about all the different aspects of his job.

How would you like to get paid doing an adventure sport most people pay to do? Sound like a dream come true? We’ll introduce you to a hang gliding instructor and see what it takes to land this exciting career. Then we’ll take you to a radio station and meet with the station’s national sales manager. We’ll learn about how vital sales are to a radio station and how you can get into this field. Maybe culinary skills are more to your liking. We’ll whet your appetite for a career as a chef as we meet with two top chefs from a fine dining Italian restaurant.

Do you play a musical instrument? Maybe you’re in band. Have you ever thought about continuing to play professionally? You’ll want to watch to find out more about this profession in our first segment. Or are you a person who enjoys being in the limelight, and impressing others with your bravery? Do you like large reptiles? Our second profession might be perfect for you. Luis introduces us to a man who has a career wrestling alligators! Finally, if you’re interested in detective work and keeping people honest, you might consider a job Carley introduces us to as a theft prevention consultant. It can save us all money in the long run as retail prices go up to cover losses from theft.

EPISODE 74
Luis finds himself in the front seat of a Mercedes resisting the sales expertise of the sales person. Then, Carley meets with a massage therapist and learns some of the techniques used to really relax people and relieve them of their aches and pains. Afterwards, she sits down with a director of catering from a country club and secretly dreams about the time she might need her services for her big day.

Today, we’re going to visit Gatorland, a park for not only alligators but hundreds of other wildlife. There, we will meet with the zookeeper who has the challenging job of taking care of the animals. Then, we’ll take you to a funeral home and talk to the director who’ll let us know what is involved in handling funeral and burial arrangements for families’ deceased members. On a lighter note, we’ll visit a country club and find out the skills it takes to keep the club running smoothly.

Are you on the tennis team in school? Well, Carley might have the perfect career for you as you’ll see when she hits the courts and meets up with a tennis pro. For you medically-minded people, we’re going to take you to a physician’s office for a visit with a doctor who treats the digestive system and scope out his medical specialty. Then, you’re in for a thrill as we see how a couple stuntmen take the heat when one of them gets set on fire. After that, we’ll visit a production company and talk with a lady who keeps the office running efficiently and smoothly.

For you pet lovers, we’ve got the perfect job... and you don’t have to wait until you’re out of school to do it! We’ll also show you a way to turn your creative planning talents and love of social functions into a profitable career. Or, for those more science-minded students who are into biology, chemistry and art, we’ve got a profession in the funeral business to show you.

Then, we’ll find out what is involved in the career of a retail district manager as she oversees several stores in a retail chain.

You’re in for a real treat in our first segment when we meet with an accomplished music composer. He’ll show us how he uses his computer to help create innovative compositions. Then, we’ll take you to a country club where Carley takes a few swings with the golf director. We’ll also visit a doctor’s office and meet with his pharmaceutical representative.

We asked Luis and Carley what their favorite segments were from last season.  It was a tough decision, but they narrowed them down to three interviews.  The first was the one we did with the TV meteorologist.  The voice-over artists were a favorite of Luis’.  Carley also loved the one about dogs trained to assist people with disabilities.  You may recall these from last season. . . but if not, don’t despair, because we’re going to run them for you again today!

EPISODE 83
We’re going to revisit New Orleans to look at three occupations. The segments were shot right before Hurricane Katrina devastated the area.  We’re going to show you the interviews and update you on how the people and businesses are doing now. First, we’re going to feature a visit with a doctor who cares for very sick newborns at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans.  Next, we’ll take you to the famed Galatoire’s and meet up with a waiter who works at this wonderful restaurant.  Then, we’ll show you a special school where you’ll meet a man dedicated to keeping kids drug-free and off the streets.

EPISODE 84
Today, we’re going to start out with a very demanding career that only a select few get chosen for.  You’ll want to watch as Luis talks with a man who works for the FBI. Then, he’ll meet up with a Human Resource Manager.  We’ll find out about her job and how she works with employees from hiring to firing.  You'll also get some tips on being prepared for a job interview... and how to increase your chances of being hired. Finally, we’ll recall another one of Luis’ favorite interviews from last year.  He had way too much fun in the simulator with a Jet Blue pilot and begged us to show it again!

EPISODE 85
Are you intrigued by the world of espionage and counterterrorism? If so, you’ll love our first segment.  It comes straight at us from the FBI.  It’s directed to all of us girls and will introduce us to the challenging career of serving our country as a Special Agent. Then we’ll meet with a Software Development Manager for an Engineering Consulting firm.  That, too, looks like an interesting and challenging profession! You won’t want to miss our final segment when Luis gets up close and personal with some scary creatures from Gatorland Zoo!

EPISODE 86
Join us as Real Life 101 Goes Cruising. Today, we’re going to devote the entire show to jobs in the cruise industry!  Carley recently spent a day on a Royal Caribbean ship and learned about what it’s like to work on a luxury liner.  Today, we’re going to see her join the Captain on the ship’s bridge and learn what it takes to be the master of the vessel and how it operates.  Then she’ll visit with the Hotel Director, who will talk to her about the many other departments of the ship.  And finally, she’ll chat with the Cruise Director and hear how he coordinates all the fun and entertainment on the ship.

EPISODE 87
Do you ever wonder who chooses the music or topics you hear on the radio?  Well, today, we’re going find out as Luis takes us behind the scenes at a radio station where he chats with the Program Director. Then, we’ll visit with a lady who helps injured or handicapped children perform everyday tasks.  Carley sat down with a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and learned a bit about her profession. And last, but not least, will see Luis reclining in the dental chair as he finds out about becoming a dentist. We had to promise him that the dentist wouldn’t start drilling!

EPISODE 88
Have you ever thought about how a newspaper can print tens or even hundreds of thousands of newspapers in just a short amount of time?  We’re going to take you to a printing press room where Carley will meet with a press operator and find out. Then, we’ll learn some of the secrets of how hotels figure out the different pricing on their rooms.  As you’ll find out in our second segment, this is no accident . . . a lot of careful analysis goes into the job. And finally, we’ll show you how different TV and theatre characters are produced with the creative strokes of a special effects makeup artist.  You won’t want to miss what she does with Carley!

Are you looking for adventure, travel and even a free education?  Today, we’re going to introduce you to some of the job opportunities in the US Army.  Or maybe you’d rather set your compass on a different heading . . .and cruise on a ship as a stateroom attendant.  You’ll wake up in a different port every day! Want to stay close to home?  How about working as a computer programmer?  You can even work from your house, as we’ll see in our final segment.

Today, we’re going to take you into a courtroom where we’ll meet a judge who helps see that the law of the land is carried out. Then we’re going to meet a little dog named “Bijou” and see how he’s professionally groomed and pampered, all without having to leave home.  And, we’ll introduce you to an editor who acts as a public liaison and who’s not afraid to take a stand – even against his own newspaper.

Ever since 9/11, immigration into the United States has been a very hot topic. We’ll talk to an attorney who has become somewhat of an advocate for people from other countries who want to make their home in the USA. Plus. . . a photo in a newspaper can often times convey a story better . . .and more quickly . . .than words can. We’ll meet the person who chooses which photos are going to tell the day’s stories. We’ll also visit a home that is being painted by a man who started from scratch as a painter.  He’ll tell us what it took to build his business.

EPISODE 92
Today we’re going to introduce you to a Breaking News Editor who will discuss how he oversees delivering news almost immediately to the paper’s internet site. We’re also going to take you to meet a Victims Services Advocate from Safe House, an organization whose mission it is to end domestic violence.  You’ll also learn how you can get help for yourself or someone you know living in an abusive situation.Then, we’ll visit the studio of an artist who finds peace and solitude in his career. . . creating award winning art with the simple stroke of a pencil.

EPISODE 93
We’re devoting our entire show to working in the newspaper industry. We’ll learn how this business is keeping up with our changing technology by not only delivering our news the traditional way but also focusing on getting information out through the internet.  A staff writer will tell us how he keeps up with the hectic pace of reporting the news. We’ll also learn about careers available in the industry from a Human Resources manager. To top our day off, we’re going to meet with the person who oversees the whole production. . .the Editor. EPISODE 94
We’ll get a lesson on being money smart from a Financial Planner and learn about the tools he uses for keeping people financially secure.  Then we’ll meet a Pediatric Physical Therapist and find out how she helps children with different disabilities and injuries develop and heal. Finally, we’ll meet a Professional Organizer who can help us get the clutter out of our lives and spend less time searching for lost items. 

EPISODE 95
Today, we’re taking a field trip. . .Real Life is going to college!  We’re not talking about just any college. . . we’re going to the University of Florida, the home of the National football and basketball champions, the Florida Gators! We’ll be taken on a tour of part of the 2,000 acre campus.  Luis will learn what life is like living away from home at Florida’s oldest and largest university.  Then we’ll talk to an admissions counselor to find out what you need to be doing now to get into college in the next few years. We’ll also get a glimpse into the operations of the student government and how it serves the needs of the school when we meet the Student Body President.

EPISODE 96
We’re going to continue our field trip to one of the country’s most academically diverse universities, the University of Florida.  We’ll pick up by meeting a student athlete who is swimming her way through her 4 years at Florida. She’ll tell us what it’s like to be actively involved in a college sports program. When you start college, you’ll be faced with the decision of whether you want to join a fraternity or sorority.  We’ll talk to a fraternity President and get a glimpse into the “Greek” side of college. Are you considering becoming a doctor?  The University has a great medical program.  We’ll meet a medical student and learn about the challenges she faces in school.

EPISODE 97
We’ll meet with a man who’s made a profession out of his love of photography, especially making people look good for portraits and head shots. Then, we’ll visit a dance clothing and accessory boutique where you can even rent costumes worn by the contestants from the TV show, Dancing with the Stars. For those of you into sports – and writing, we’ll let you in on a way to get up close and personal with your favorite sports teams and make a living!

EPISODE 98
First, Luis is going to sit down with a Chief Engineer for a hotel.  I never even knew hotels had engineers – can you guess what they do? Then we’ll meet a dietician who makes up a special diet for kids with seizures that helps them go seizure-free. Finally, we’ll talk to a couple of librarians who will let us know how their duties have evolved over the years.

EPISODE 99
The entire show is being devoted to careers in the hotel industry.  It takes many people working together as a team to have a hotel that meets people’s expectations and makes them feel at home whether they’re staying for business or pleasure. Today, we’ll talk to the General Manager who overseas the entire operation of the facility of a hotel.  We’ll also meet with the person responsible for maintaining and keeping the rooms clean, the Director of Housekeeping.  Plus, we’ll meet with the person in charge of booking meeting and banquet functions on the property, the Director of Sales and Marketing.

EPISODE 100
First we’ll meet a chaplain who works in a hospital bringing peace and comfort to patients and their families. For those of you interested in criminal justice, we’ll meet a man who is the Chief Probation Officer in a federal court and learn about the probation system. And finally, we’ll visit a nursing home and see how an activities director and her dog keep the patients occupied and enjoying life.

EPISODE 101
We’re going to meet a Real Estate Attorney who has balanced his career with his passion for helping others in the small African country of Namibia.  We’ll also visit with the controller for a Sheraton Hotel.  He’ll introduce us to how he crunches numbers for financial reports. Then it’s off to the cruise ship again as we meet a young man who entertains the guests with his talented voice.  He’ll even sing us a little tune – a cappella! 

EPISODE 102
Did you know when you meet someone you have just 10 seconds to make an impression on them?  We’ll learn from an image consultant how to make sure that first impression is a positive one. Then we’ll visit a hair salon and learn about styles, coloring and a special program where you can donate your hair when it’s time to take the cutting shears to that ponytail. We’ll also take you to Florida’s Museum of Natural History and meet up with a shark researcher who has devoted his career to investigating shark attacks and sharks around the world.

EPISODE 103
Today, we’ll introduce you to the world of Pediatric Speech and Language Pathology and see how this can be a rewarding career for people who love to work with children. Then, we’ll get the scoop on the daily routine of a newspaper’s business news reporter. We’ll also take you to a home that is being given a beautiful addition of an outdoor living area – and tell you where you can find information about being an apprentice in construction.

EPISODE 104
Buying a home is usually the biggest purchase someone makes. We’ll speak with a mortgage banker and find out what’s involved in getting a loan so a person can move into the home of their dreams.  In our stressful world, a lot of people have trouble coping with different issues. We’ll speak with a mental health counselor and see how she helps her clients get through life. Want some of the challenges and stimulation of the legal profession without going to law school?  How about choosing a career as a paralegal?

EPISODE 105
First, we’ll talk to a newspaper columnist and learn how he broke into his field and find out what he does to keep his loyal following reading his columns.  Did you ever wonder where the exact property line is between your house and your neighbors’? We’ll meet up with a professional land surveyor who will fill us in on how subdivisions and other properties are measured so that the lots can be built on. And last, but not least, we’ll meet a Probation Officer and see how she helps criminal offenders live clean, productive lives.

EPISODE 106
We’re going to start out by visiting the photo editor at a newspaper.  We’ll see how he works with all the various departments to get the perfect photos throughout the paper and online.  Then we’ll meet the guy we call when the water pipes break or the toilet overflows. . .our handy plumber.  We’ll finish by visiting the cruise ship and meeting the man responsible for overseeing one of the highlights of cruising – the food and beverage manager.

EPISODE 107
We’ll talk to an audiologist who has found a rewarding career diagnosing and treating hearing disorders.  Then, we’ll meet a young lady who has a very enviable job as a dance captain on a cruise ship. Finally, Luis has his fears of the dental chair calmed when he visits a dental hygienist who fills him in on she helps people maintain their oral health.
